European Society for Biomaterials (ESB)

Founded in 1976, the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB) is one of the oldest societies in the field of materials for biomedical applications. ESB became a member of the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Sciences and Engineering (IUSBSE) at its conception, in 1979. Today, the ESB counts approximately 1000 members from more than 20 different countries worldwide.

The society brings together scientists from academia, industry as well as clinicians active in the field of biomaterials to exchange ideas, advance the research and bring research findings to patients. Annual ESB meetings are visited by approximately 1000 people.

The society plays the liaison between the affiliated societies in Europe and connects with sister societies in the rest of the world. Moreover, the ESB liaises with the European Commission to both understand the European vision and priorities in research and development funding, and to inform the policy makers about developments in the field of biomaterials. The society has special attention for the next generation scientists in the field of biomaterials. Through their Young Scientists Forum, it offers a platform for early-career scientists to learn about relevant topics such as scientific writing, grant applications, and job opportunities.
